What Happens to My Solar Warranty if the Installer Closes?

Prepare a practical service and records plan so an installer’s closure does not leave your household guessing.

The answer depends on who made each promise and the claim process for your equipment. An installer’s workmanship commitment and a manufacturer’s product warranty are separate matters. If the installer becomes unavailable, gather your records and contact the relevant manufacturer or authorised support channel. Do not assume either that every warranty disappears or that another contractor must perform free work.

Identify the original promises

Find the signed contract, paid invoice, equipment schedule and warranty documents. Separate installation workmanship from manufacturer coverage for panels, inverter and battery. Record which legal entity supplied each service; a trading name alone may not provide enough information for a support enquiry.

For an illustrative fault, an inverter that stops operating may require equipment diagnosis, while a roof leak may require a different investigation. Avoid deciding the cause from appearance alone. A clear description of the symptom helps the next support provider determine the appropriate first step.

Use the manufacturer’s documented route

Victron’s warranty policy routes claims through the place of purchase or the original direct customer. [1] That illustrates why the distribution chain and original supplier details can matter when the household’s first contact is no longer available.

Ask the manufacturer how it wants your specific case handled and which local service organisations it recognises. Provide model, serial number, invoice and commissioning date. Request written instructions before paying for removal or shipping equipment. Do not assume a process used for one brand or country applies to another.

Preserve the system information

US DOE’s guidance for homes with existing solar highlights the value of installation and warranty information. [2] Those records are also useful when changing service providers without changing ownership.

Save the system diagram, circuit labels, monitoring access, approved connection documents and maintenance history. Keep an offline copy of key files. If an installer managed the app account, ask the platform or manufacturer for the legitimate ownership-transfer process. Do not share passwords publicly or give unrestricted access to an unverified person claiming to represent the original company.

Commission a scoped assessment if needed

A new qualified contractor may need to inspect the installation before accepting service responsibility. Ask for the assessment scope, fee and expected output in advance. Separate that paid investigation from any later warranty remedy, and avoid authorising a full replacement before the fault has been understood.

Request a written finding that distinguishes observed facts from suspected causes. For example, “monitoring stopped reporting” is not the same finding as “the inverter has failed.” Clear diagnosis protects you from replacing functioning equipment merely because an old account or communication link no longer works.

Check Philippine support before the next purchase

For future purchases, ask who provides local technical support, how equipment reaches the authorised channel and what happens if the installing business is unavailable. Confirm whether another qualified installer can service the system and what permissions or records they need.

Do not treat an international brand name as proof of a specific Philippine replacement stock level or turnaround time. Request the seller’s current service commitments. If a dispute about contractual rights arises, use the appropriate local consumer or legal advice rather than treating a technical service conversation as a legal determination.

Create a household continuity folder

Put the equipment identities, claim contacts, installation records and latest support correspondence in one shared household folder. Add a short note explaining who has monitoring access and where owner operating instructions are stored. Review it after any equipment replacement or change of service provider.

Lightning Energy Philippines can help assess an existing installation and explain an agreed service scope. Manufacturer claim acceptance remains subject to the applicable terms and process. The practical aim is to restore a clear support route and reliable information, so the household can make a measured decision instead of starting again from an unfamiliar rooftop system.
